Ottawa Aerial Work Platform Training

Fall Protection Training Program is designed to introduce both experienced and inexperienced operators to the principles and practices critical to the safe use of aerial work equipment and ensure users have the ability to correctly apply safe practices and  procedures. Our experience has indicated  that aerial work platform training is the most effective method to protecting the user(s) Health and Safety. The information delivered during the course is consistent with all related policies and procedures, standards and regulations. The time required to deliver and facilitate the Safety Through Motion -Fall Protection Training Program is 6.5hours.

By following the Ministry of Labour regulations within the Occupational Health & Safety Act and recommendations by the CSA Standards our training program is one of the best investments you as an Employer or Individual can make to assist you in attaining a good safety record. Our Safety Through Motion-Aerial Work Platform Training Program has proven to generate and result in a positive return in investment. Upon successful  completion of the training program, you will see a  significant cost cutting measure in areas such as operator injury, equipment maintenance, down time, Worker’s Compensation premiums and insurance premiums.           

Program Content- Overview

  • Regulations/Standards in Fall Arrest/Protection
  • Definition -Identification- Description of Aerial Work Platorms
  • Fall Protection Awareness- Ability to apply Fall Prevention practices and procedures.
  • Operational Equipment Inspections
  • ‘Identification of Hazards and prevention of accidents
  • AWP site inspections and safe practices
  • Battery and Fuel safe handling

Upon successful completion of the theory presentation and practical portion each individual will receive a Wall Certificate and Wallet Card in recognition of their achievement.

Assessment Criteria

  • Perform an end user inspection of a fall protection equipment
  • Complete a full body harness fitting
  • Complete a practical evaluation on the Aerial Work Platform
  • Achieve a minimum of 75% on the theory and the practical assessment

Practical Learning and Evaluation:

The practical learning and evaluation portion of the training consist fo the following:

  • Equipment Demo with our qualified Instructor (as per CSA B335 section 7)
  • Hands on Learning with the AWP Equipment and our qualified instructor
  • Practical Evaluation with the Individual completed ONE ON ONE with our dedicated qualified Instructors

This course is for anyone working on or with Aerial Work Platforms. The foundation of the program and delivery of the course is based on the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario

 Occupational Health and Safety Act R.R.O. 1990, Reg. 851-  INDUSTRIAL ESTABLISHMENTS

Duties of Employers

25 (1) An employer shall ensure that,

  • (a) provide information, instruction and supervision to a worker to protect the health or safety of the worker;
  • (h) take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a worker;
  • (k) where so prescribed, provide a worker with written instructions as to the measures and procedures to be taken for the protection of a worker; and
  • (l) carry out such training programs for workers, supervisors and committee members as may be prescribed.

1.2 This Standard specifies the minimum requirements for the establishment of criteria for the design, manufacture, remanufacture, rebuild/recondition, testing, performance, inspection, training, maintenance, and safe operation of self-elevating work platforms to achieve the following objectives:

 (a) prevention of personal injuries and accidents;

 (b) uniformity in ratings; an

 (c) understanding by manufacturers, dealers, installers, maintenance personnel, operators, owners, and users of their respective responsibilities.  

The operation of any aerial platform is subject to certain hazards that can only be protected against by having competent, careful personnel trained in the intended use, safe operation, maintenance, and service of this type of equipment.
