PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS – OVERVIEW

Truck Mounted Crane Training Program is designed to introduce both experienced and inexperienced operators to the principles and practices critical to the safe use of equipment and ensure users have the ability to correctly apply safe practices and procedures. Our experience has indicated the truck mounted crane training is the most effective method to protecting the user(s) health and safety. The information delivered during this course is consistent with all related policies and procedures, standards and regulations. The time required to deliver and facilitate the Safety Through Motion Truck Mounted Crane Program is one day depending on class size.

By following the Ministry of Labour regulations within the Occupational Health & Safety Act and recommendations by the CSA Standards, our training program is one of the best investments you as an employer or individual can make to assist you in attaining a good safety record. Our Safety Through Motion- Truck Mounted Crane Program has proven to generate and result in a positive return in investment. Upon successful completion of the training program, you will see a significant cost cutting measure in areas such as: operator injury, equipment maintenance, down time, Worker’s Compensation premiums and insurance premiums.

Course Summary
The key to the safe operation of a truck mounted crane and operator competence is training. This program will provide participants with the knowledge and acquired skills required to operate a truck mounted crane safely and efficiently as a competent person. This course covers a variety of industrial type truck mounted cranes including stiff and folding booms.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

• Understand applicable legislation and identify hazards specific to truck mounted crane use
• Perform pre-operational checks
• Hand signals
• Work area inspections
• Setup and stability
• Operate a truck mounted crane safely and understand load charts
• Upon successful completion of the theory presentation and practical portion each individual will receive a Wall Certificate and Wallet Card in recognition of their achievement.

Assessment Criteria

• Perform an end user pre-inspection of the Truck Mounted Crane
• Demonstrate proper setup and loading methods & techniques
• Complete a practical evaluation on the Truck Mounted Crane
• Achieve a minimum of 75% on the theory and the practical assessment

Practical Learning and Evaluation:

The practical learning and evaluation portion of the training consist of the following:

• Equipment demo with our qualified instructor (as per CSA Standards)
• Hands on learning with the Truck Mounted Crane with our qualified instructors
• Practical evaluation with the individual completed ONE ON ONE with our dedicated qualified instructors
• This course is recommended for anyone working with, or operating stiff and folding truck mounted cranes; and other equipment having similar characteristics.

The foundation of the program and delivery of the course is based on the provisions of the Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario.

Employers – Roles and Responsibilities

The Occupational Health and Safety Act, (OHSA) sets out general responsibilities for employers. Among other duties, an employer must:

• instruct, inform and supervise workers to protect their health and safety [OHSA25(2)(a)]
• appoint competent persons as supervisors [OHSA25(2)(c)]
• take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of workers [OHSA25(2)(h)]
• post a copy of the OHSAin the workplace [OHSA 25(2)(i)]

14.34.1 Operator certification

On and after July 1, 2007, a mobile crane, tower crane or boom truck must be operated only

(a) by a person with a valid operator’s certificate issued by a person acceptable to the Board, and

(b) in accordance with any conditions stipulated on the certificate.
